How to resolve broken SIDs with SID to name utility

Sometimes when you are doing file permissions you see broken SIDs, because you have deleted an account or group. On your machine when you are playing with registry editor and playing with HKEY USERS key, you would notice USER SIDs such as HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2002034099-1741304011-708699545-486584.

In order to know what username does that long string of numbers translates to, you can use the freeware utility OBJ::SID , which is available through our tools section. Click here to download it.

Another SID tool

Here is another SID to name tool that does a wonderful job. This is a command line tool but does both account and machine name resolutions. You can find it at http://www.joeware.net/freetools/tools/sidtoname/index.htm
