What is Witricity

Witricity is a synonym for wireless electricity, wireless electricity as in where the transmission of electricity happens without wires. Just imagine a world with so much less wire clutter, think about charging your cellphones, digital cameras, laptops etc without plugging them in the wall and no more nasty wire clutter around your computer and monitor.

The concept of wireless electricity has been around for a while, but did you know that it already has been implemented? Some of the electric tooth brushes are charged wirelessly using the principal of magnetic induction, its deemed much safer as a toothbrush is always in a wet environment where plugging it in directly to a wall outlet could be hazardous.

The principal of wireless electricity was discovered by Nikola Tesla (also remembered for the Tesla Coil and work in electromagnetic induction) in late 19th century. Witricity uses coupled resonant objects to transmit electricity without wires to a receiving device. The system typically comprises of a witricity transmitter and another device called the receiver. The receiver uses the same principle as the radio receivers where the device must be in the range of the transmitter and resonant magnetic fields. Likely the measurement unit for Witricity might be called Witric.

Some problems that remain around having a wide use of Witricity is social acceptance, as people think that wireless electromagnetic radiation might harm them, lack of big wireless induction equipment and fewer compatible devices prevent a wide scale production.
